Self Care for Relationships
In our previous blog post, we discussed self-care for individuals. As noted in that post, self-care is defined as: An individual taking time to engage in activities that provide them with opportunities to live well, as well as to improve their physical and mental health.
What is self care for couples?
When considering how self-care looks for couples, this looks similar to self-care for individuals; individuals and partners engaging in activities that provide them with opportunities to live well, as well as to improve their physical and mental health. As individuals better themselves via engaging in self-care, they will, in turn, bring happiness into their relationships, which will result in increased closeness with their partners. Practicing couple self-care results in more empathy and authenticity in relationships.
Suggestions?
This may look like dining together without using your phones, taking walks together, or similar activities. It is recommended that individual partners or couples write lists of self-care activities that are important to them, then couples can choose which activities to engage in.
Individual and couples therapy are encouraged to partake in, for the purpose of discovering methods to learn about individual and couple self-care preferences and options.
